WHY CANT I PUT MY LSWW PRODUCT IN THE DISHWASHER?

Wood is a naturally porous material and it wants to “soak up” any water/liquid that may come into contact with its surface. To counteract this all Leaning Shed products are soaked in food grade mineral oil and sealed with natural bees wax. This helps seal the surface and interior grain structure from accumulating moisture or harboring bacteria. To be clear this is not permanent and you will need to reapply oil (and bees wax if you can) as needed based on frequency of use.

So, never put your LSWW product in the dishwasher or submerge in water. EVER. No exceptions. Simply clean with a mild detergent and a soft cloth with tepid water and let air dry on a rack.

WHAT IS “FOOD GRADE” MINERAL OIL?

Food grade mineral oil, more commonly referred to as “Butcher Block” oil is a highly refined, non-toxic, odorless, and colorless petroleum derivative safe for direct contact with food and kitchen surfaces.

All LSWW products are soaked and/or finished with this to mitigate the buildup of harmful bacteria. This does not mean you can be cavalier with the cleaning of your LSWW product. You are responsible for your own food safe handling and practices.

CAN I USE VEGETABLE OIL OR SOMETHING SIMILAR ON MY LSWW PRODUCT?

No. Absolutely not. Vegetable oil or other plant derived oils will harbor harmful bacteria in the grain of the wood and will quickly go rancid.

WHY IS THE WEBSITE…. SO BASIC?

This is an easy one. Simply put, I’m a wood worker not a web designer. I do however listen to feedback and suggestions but my priorities are almost exclusively focused on the things that I make and less so on a flashy website.
